The Bonny Dogs

Another sad one, but I hope you pups enjoy it.

An Owner, there lived in the north country
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
And he had puppies one, two, three
The dogs swim so bonny o
These puppies they walked by the river's brim
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
The eldest pushed the youngest in
The dogs swim so bonny o

“Oh brother, oh brother, pray lend me your paw”
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
“And I will give you my bone to chaw”
The dogs swim so bonny o
“I'll give you neither paw nor glove,”
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
“Unless you give me your owner’s love”
The dogs swim so bonny o

Sometimes he sank, sometimes he swam
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
Until he came to a miller's dam
The dogs swim so bonny o
The miller's daughter, dressed in red
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
She went for some water to make her bread
The dogs swim so bonny o

“Oh father, oh daddy, here by the tree,”
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
“It's very like a gentle puppy!”
The dogs swim so bonny o
They laid Pup on the bank to dry
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
There came a Harper passing by
The dogs swim so bonny o

He made harp pins of his claws so fair
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
He made harp strings of his golden hair
The dogs swim so bonny o
He made a harp of his chest bone
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
And straight it began to play alone
The dogs swim so bonny o

He brought it to his Master's hall
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
And there was the pack, assembled all
The dogs swim so bonny o
He laid the harp upon a stone
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
And straight it began to play alone
The dogs swim so bonny o

There does sit my Boss, the King
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
And yonder sits my Alpha, Sting
The dogs swim so bonny o
And there does sit my Trainer Hugh
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
And by him William, handler true
The dogs swim so bonny o
And there does sit my false brother, Hoss
Hey hey ho, little doggie-o
Who drowned me for the sake of my Boss
the dogs swim so bonny o
